Not many Indian restaurants have a head chef that has cooked for the likes of Mick Jagger, Princess Diana and Imran Khan. York's new Saffron Desi is geared up to satisfy the more adventurous diner although that's not to say that you can't enjoy more traditonal Indian fare like onion bhajis and chicken tikka massala. Through the large windows overlooking Micklegate, it's an impressive prospect with its polished wooden floors, chrome walls and purple lighting. Saffron Desi has a sister restaurant in Bradford and plans afoot for a Huddersfield branch.

When I am in York on business this is the place I go. The food, service and the place are fantastic. I have never seen a Nan bread as big as the ones served here, nor as tasty.
