Located down an alley in the centre of York you'll find this fine eating establishment. The restaurant offers a relaxing, friendly atmosphere with friendly, efficient staff. Service is "laidback" yet professional with many personal touches.

The menu uses fresh, local produce with food being cooked to order and mostly home-made. Food is Mediterranean, recognizable food with interesting variations, not too fancy and plain if you request it!

The restaurant features many quirks - eagles, clocks all set to 8 o'clock and film sets in the toilets

Outside allows for lunch in the sun (during the summer months) pre-dinner drinks area or after dinner coffee chill-out zone. The seating arrangements, parasols and outside heated lamps make the area comfortable all year round.

The crab with smoked cheese was a top starter and our group loved sea bream, bass and lemon sole (just a fishy day for us - not a full menu representation!) The plates weren't huge but we were full enough to share the chocolate fondue between 3. Fantastic savoury profiteroles on the house too! The wine was well presented, good quality and the service friendly, well timed and very good humoured. Brilliant. Have just booked there again!

Disappointing

Having read such fantastic reviews expectations were high. Sadly not delivered. For a restaurant that makes such a thing about ensuring guests confirm several meals had already sold out at 8pm on a Saturday. Quality was a little below the ambitious prices, seasoning was very random some dishes super salty, some dishes with no salt. 5/10
More a decent bistro than a restaurant. Friendly staff though.

My husband and I had lunch at ate o'clock today. We chose from the special lunch menu and although the choice was not extensive it was really good value for money at £8.80 per person (ex drinks). My husband had the mushroom soup with cheesy toast followed by the thai fishcake and I had the duck pate followed by the thai fishcake. The food was really tasty, well presented and brilliant value for money. The staff were friendly, cheery and very helpful. We're definitely making a return trip there when we're next in York.

We can't say enough about this restaurant to do it justice. Service, food, atmosphere, price and the little complimentary touches such as the amuse bouche & home made bread just makes it stand head & shoulders above the many restaurants in York who aspire to this level and think that a whacking great price tag = quality food. What you get here is local delicious & well cooked food with the special touch of a great chef. Go, you won't be disappointed.
